Introduction:
The Beta Phi Chapter of Rho Chi had a good year overall, with the continuation of some previous projects and the implementation of several new programs. All members were fully involved in chapter business and activities which was vital to our chapter’s success. We conducted one major fundraising event which provided the chapter with enough funds to complete our necessary tasks without excessive depletion of the finances. After nomination of our new members, we are fully confident that they will continue our chapter’s tradition of excellence!
Meetings:
The
September 7th: All members present. The agenda included asking for volunteers for
the annual
November 13th: All members present. This meeting focused on fundraising, specifically the parameters of selling Sigler’s Drug Cards for the students. Other fundraising ideas were generated and discussed and tabled for future meetings. We recognized a need to better serve our community, so we implemented a community service project. Among the ideas mentioned were volunteering to help the Salvation Army with bell-ringing during the holidays, and donating money to our local Community Holidays Program (a division of the Department of Family Services), which provides gifts to less fortunate families in the Laramie area. There was overwhelming support by the chapter for our involvement in the Community Holidays Program, so we chose that option as a service project that we would definitely partake in. We then checked upon the status of our new tutoring program.
February 1st: 50% of members present. Our first order of business was to decide
whether or not we were going to continue our tutoring service in the new
semester and possible dates and times to provide it. We also discussed more fundraising ideas,
including selling laminated formula sheets, selling Top 200 drug cards, and selling
coupon books for a local coffee house in
March 14th: All members present. We unanimously accepted the new candidates for election into our Beta Phi Chapter of Rho Chi. Nine members were chosen as well as the location and time of the induction ceremony. It was decided that the best date to hold the ceremony was Tuesday, April 22nd, at 7:00 p.m. Our chapter advisor then mentioned providing a gift for the graduating P4’s with the extra money in the account. We decided that we would finalize this decision after the banquet so that we knew just exactly how much money we could contribute to the gifts. Fundraising was again on the agenda, and other ideas for this were discussed.
April 30th: Four members present. The annual report was composed.
Strategic Planning:
Our goals for the year were to become more involved with
the students in the school of pharmacy, as well as with the residents of the
community of
Activities:
As mentioned above, we implemented the tutoring program for underclassmen, which was not as successful as hoped, but still considered a rewarding experience. With better promotion, we fully expect a better turnout among the students. We also took the initiative to implement a community service project by providing holiday gifts to less fortunate individuals in the community. This project was very well accepted by the members and was quite gratifying to be able to help out those in need. We are hoping that these two activities will be ongoing and their continuation has been encouraged by the current members. Fundraising was also imperative for our chapter to continue it’s functions, so funds were once again supplemented with the selling of Sigler’s Drug Cards. This will be an ongoing matter for future members, with hopefully the initiation of new fundraising ideas. We had great success with the planning and implementation of the new members at our initiation banquet, and this will continue to be an ongoing process as long as the chapter is in existence.
Financial/ Budgeting:
Since our finances were well-established, due to the contributions from the previous class, our main focus was to maintain and increase our current assets. In order to facilitate this, we generated funds by once again selling Sigler’s Drug Cards to the student body, which was very profitable for us. We had anticipated running the concession stand at a women’s basketball game, but unfortunately we were unable to do this. We have recommended this as a continuous source of money for the new members. We were also hoping to conduct other fundraising ideas, but due to time constraints, these were not feasible for the current year.
Initiation Function:
This year’s
initiation function was once again held at Altitude Chophouse and Brewery in
Evaluation/Reflection:
The Beta Phi
members feel our chapter was very successful in implementing new programs;
specifically, programs that were unable to be accomplished by previous members
due to various circumstances. All the
members were extremely involved and motivated to promote the ideals and goals
of Rho Chi. As within the organization,
improvements can always be made; among these are to implement new fundraising
ideas to increase the budget, improve awareness of the organization among the
students in the school of pharmacy, and increase involvement and participation
in the community as well as the
