Chapters are encouraged to plan activities that enhance the Mission of the Rho Chi Society. Please make use of the website (http://www.rhochi.org) for any information you might need about the Society. The site should be helpful and informative. Spring is usually a very busy time of the year for chapters as many chapters elect new members during this time. Please allow ample time for the National Office to process your new member election reports and order your pins and certificates. It is not only an expectation, but an induction ceremony is made even more special when new member is able to receive his/her pin and certificate at that time. If you have any questions concerning the process for electing and reporting new members, please visit the website or contact the National Office (919-843-9001).

Please be sure your chapter has submitted your 2004-2005 roster of officers to the National Office. If your current President is not listed on your chapter’s web page, updated information has not been received in the National Office. In addition to your faculty advisor, this is an essential means of disseminating information to your members.

The Society’s Annual Meeting will be held in conjunction with the American Pharmaceutical Association (APhA) Annual Meeting and Exposition in Orlando, Florida, April 1 – 5. Each chapter should have their Delegate and/or Alternate present for the Annual Meeting on Sunday, April 3, 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. in the Peabody Hotel – Florida II. Preliminary agenda items include: election of national officers, discussion of the Society’s strategic plan, and an update on the National Office. This is THE business meeting of the Society. Delegates and Alternates are encouraged to attend and actively participate in Society discussions.

Information regarding registration, housing, programs, etc. at the APhA Annual Meeting and Exposition in Orlando, Florida can be found on the APhA website (www.aphameeting.org) under Registration and General Information.

Slate of Officers for 2004 Elections

Elections for Executive Council offices will be held at the Annual Meeting. The following positions are to be elected at the Annual Meeting. A Sample Ballot, which includes biographical sketches, will be sent to delegates prior to the Meeting.

  • Historian
  • Secretary
  • Region I Councilor (Northeastern Section)
  • Region III Councilor (Southeastern Section)
  • Region V Councilor (Mid-Western Section)
  • Region VII Councilor (Northwestern Section)

Each chapter is expected to have a delegate present for the Annual meeting. In accord with National Bylaws, chapters not in attendance for three consecutive years are placed on probation and are not eligible to elect and induct new members. A record of chapter attendance for each of the past three years is posted on the Society’s website, www.rhochi.org, for review. (Click on the link to Upcoming Meetings).

By March 11, 2005, each chapter should contact the National Office to register the chapter’s official Delegate and Alternate. An on-line registration form can be found on the Society’s website, www.rhochi.org. On the site navigation bar choose Chapters/Chapter Instructions/Delegates. If you cannot access the website, please send an e-mail to RhoChi@unc.edu and include: the name of the chapter (in the email subject line), the name of the university, the names of the delegate and alternate delegate, email addresses for each one, the name of the chapter president, the email address of the chapter president, the name of the faculty advisor and her/his email address. Delegates’, Alternates’, and Presidents’ names will be added to the Px-Officers e-mail listserv as they become available. Communications from the National Office regarding the National Meeting and other Society business will be communicated via this listserv.

The Rho Chi Society Luncheon and Lecture Award Presentation will precede the Society’s Annual Meeting. This event will be held on Sunday, April 3 from 12 Noon to 2:00 pm. The 2005 Lecture Award recipient, Charles D. Hepler, Professor Emeritus, College of Pharmacy, The University of Florida and Director, DuBow Family Center for Research in Pharmaceutical Care, will be honored during the luncheon. There is a link on the Society’s website via the Lecture Award page with further information regarding Dr. Hepler.

Tickets for student delegates and alternates for the luncheon are at a reduced price of $25.00 each and should be purchased in advance by March 11, 2005, through the National Office. The cost for faculty members will be $50.00 each and should be purchased as part of one’s registration for the 2005 APhA Annual Meeting. Please purchase your tickets in advance to assist the National Office in planning the luncheon. Faculty members can purchase on-site tickets at the APhA Registration Desk and a very limited number of tickets will be available at the Rho Chi Luncheon site. Guests are welcome and encouraged to attend. Please examine how your school or chapter might cover this cost for its delegate and alternate.

Each and every chapter is encouraged to participate in the annual Chapter Awards Program. This should be a very rewarding process. The number of new chapters participating is encouraging but as many chapters as possible should plan to participate in this Program. Don’t wait for next year — there is still time. If you aren’t prepared for the February 1, 2005 deadline, be prepared for the June 3, 2005 deadline. Your Chapter proposal might just be the next one to receive recognition!

Complete information regarding Chapter Awards is available via www.rhochi.org. The Society’s President-Elect, Gary E. DeLander, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, College of Pharmacy, Oregon State University, chairs the Society’s Chapter Awards Program. Entries should be sent to:
